Abstract

The safety and reliability of munitions are critical components of national defense, especially within the context of Poland's membership in NATO and the current geopolitical situation. This article discusses comprehensive testing processes used to ensure the safety of combat agents throughout their life cycle. The research methodology encompasses a philosophy of selecting representative samples and subjecting them to a strictly defined sequence of tests to verify operational parameters. Key procedures include non-destructive radiographic (X-ray) examinations to assess structural integrity, laboratory tests to analyze the physicochemical properties and stability of explosives through accelerated aging, and field (range) trials to evaluate functional performance and ballistics.
A primary objective of these diagnostic activities is the extension of the technical service life of munitions, which generates significant financial savings for the armed forces, reaching hundreds of millions of PLN annually. The article emphasizes that the aging of explosives is a complex and sometimes unpredictable process, necessitating continuous improvement of testing methodologies and adherence to international standards, such as STANAG. Ultimately, the integration of competent personnel, modern instrumentation, and rigorous documentation is essential to mitigate risks during the handling, transport, and operation of munitions.
